My hopes and dreams as a Board member and for Fairpark Community:
I believe that focused efforts on my local community is where I must begin, to have an impact on life around me.
I hope to serve as a voice for my community on issues that impact our citizens. I will strive to maintain and improve the way we communicate with our community members.
I advocate for the preservation of the character of the Fairpark Community neighborhoods. I am a proponent of keeping current zoning in place as a measure of preserving that character.
I would love to see all of our communication outlets have translation features so that speakers of other languages are able to be informed about events and issues in our community.
Other information:
I grew up in Frederick County, Maryland and moved to Utah in 1997. I am married to Tom King, another Board Member and lifelong Utah resident. We lived in West Jordan until 2013 when we moved to Fairpark Community. We have four grown children and five grandchildren. We love to grow food, hike, camp, bicycle, and travel.
Tom and I founded Blue Sky Institute, an educational non-profit501(c)(3), dedicated to providing outreach and education on social justice issues in the areas of Education, Human Rights, Environment, Sustainability and Responsibility. Since 2005, the day after Thanksgiving, we hold the annual Community Coat Exchange, one of the many projects of BSI. The Fairpark Community Council serves as a community partner for the event.
I am actively involved in politics and helped to form the Green Party of Utah in 2000. I served as Co-chair of the party and as a National Delegate to the Green Party of the United States, with activity on many national committees. In 2006 I was a candidate for Salt Lake County Council. After a hiatus, I am involved in the GPUT again in a variety of capacities.
