Occupation: Public School Educator – I have been teaching in the public school system for over 30 years. The last 15 years have been devoted to working with students with disabilities. Beginning in July 2015 I will be working on professional development needs for special educators.
Education: I have a BA in Music, MS in Curriculum and Instruction, and MEd in Special Education/Transition Specialist.
My hopes and dreams as a Board member and for Fairpark Community:
I hope to serve as a voice for my community on issues that impact our citizens. I will strive to maintain and improve the way we communicate with our community members – through our website and The Gazette.
I would love to see all of our communication outlets have translation features so that speakers of other languages are able to be informed about events and issues in our community.
I grew up in Frederick County, Maryland and moved to Utah in 1997. I am married to Tom King, another Board Member. We lived in West Jordan until 2013 when we moved to Fairpark Community. We have four grown children and five grandchildren. We love to grow food, hike, camp, bicycle, and travel.
Tom and I founded Blue Sky Institute, and educational non-profit501(c)(3), dedicated to providing outreach and education on social justice issues in the areas of Education, Human Rights, Environment, Sustainability and Responsibility. For the past 10 years the day after Thanksgiving we hold the annual Community Coat Exchange. We were able to get the Fairpark Community to serve as a community partner for the event in 2014.
I was actively involved in politics in the early 2000’s. In 2006 I was a candidate for Salt Lake County Council. I am now focusing my efforts more on my local community where I feel I can have more of an impact.
